Divisionwide Announcements
Shop for School Tax-Free before School Begins; Virginia Sales Tax Holiday is August 1–3
July 21, 2014

School supplies selling for $20 or less per item and articles of clothing, including footwear, selling for $100 or less per item will be exempt from sales tax during the Virginia Sales Tax Holiday scheduled for Friday, August 1 through Sunday, August 3.

Families with children in Prince William County Public Schools are encouraged to take advantage of these savings to prepare their students for the upcoming school year. Check your school’s Web site or call your school for a copy of the 2014–15 supply list. For a directory of schools, go to pwcs.edu and click on “Schools,” then select the directory by grade level.

Beginning July 28, SPARK, the Education Foundation for PWCS, will collect school supplies at the Kelly Leadership Center to help ensure that all student have the back-to-school basics they need to return to school ready to learn. The Kelly Leadership Center is located at 14715 Bristow Road, Manassas, VA 20112
Most-needed items include backpacks, 3-ring binders, tabbed dividers, folders with pockets, spiral notebooks, loose-leaf paper, colored pencils, pencil boxes/bags, tissues, hand sanitizer, marble composition books, ink pens (blue or black), No. 2 pencils, washable markers, crayons, highlighters, glue/glue sticks, rounded scissors, index cards, and graph paper.

IMMUNIZATIONS
REQUIRED Tdap Vaccination

All students, regardless of age, entering 6th grade (and students new to Prince William County Schools in 7th and 8th grades) must submit written valid documentation of Tdap vaccination after the age of 7 years.  Valid documentation needs to include:  the student's name, name and date of vaccination given, name/address/telephone number of facility giving the vaccine and the signature of the healthcare provider.  By state law, without documentation of this vaccination, students will not be able to attend school.  Please submit all updated immunization records before the first day of school. 
NOTE:  Only 1 does of Tdap is required, regardless of the interval since the last dose of pertussis-containing vaccine.  Please see PWCS Regulation 755-1 (Immunization Requirement) for information regarding required documentation for Religious and Medical exemptions.


Summer Reading is Here!
 It's time to think about the wonderful world of reading during the summer. PWCS is providing a list of books for each grade level which will entice all students in the adventures of a good book. SUMMER READING LIST 2014 Please check this list and be prepared for a lot of restful summer days with a book.



Godwin Middle School Athletics
Students interested in participating in middle school sports, cheerleading, STEP and Dance teams are required to have both a middle school sports physical on file each school year and participated in Concussion Education by or before try-outs begin.  

Rising 7th and 8th grade students, along with their parents, who have participated in a face-to-face middle school concussion session can complete the On-Line concussion session by clicking the following link:  https://online-concussion.pwcs.edu/offline.php.

Godwin Middle School sessions will be held in the cafeteria and begin promptly at 7:00 p.m.

*A parent having children in both middle and high school will be required to attend a middle and a high school presentation as there are sufficient differences in the way concussions will be handled at the middle and high school levels.



STUDENT WORK PERMITS
Effective July 1, 2013, Schools will no longer issue Work Permits for students. Information and instructions for obtaining a work permit can be found at www.doli.virginia.gov
